Driving up to the Lake Norfork Inn, I was immediately struck by the quaintness of the place. It looked like a charming little bed and breakfast, the kind of place where I might expect to be served scones and tea on arrival. But let me tell you, the reality was quite different.

First of all, there was no one there to greet us. We walked into the lobby and were met with an eerie silence. I half expected bats to come flying out of the rafters. Eventually, a woman appeared from behind the desk, looking like she'd just been roused from a nap. Check-in? she grunted, barely making eye contact with us.
